34 x 34 is project by the Boston Red Sox featuring 34 #ThanksPapi billboards in the Boston area. Each billboard was designed by a different artist to celebrate David Ortiz.
My favorite part about the project is being able to see so many designers celebrate one legendary player by expressing their creativity. Each designer has a different style that is clear in their billboard. I also enjoy hearing a designer’s explanation of their art and learning where they pull their inspiration from.
Out of 34 billboards, I could only narrow it down to 8 of my favorites.
The two hands in the design are representative of when David Ortiz hits a homer. He points both hands to the sky in honor of his mother.

My concept reflects on Papi’s 19 years in the MLB. Each year, unique in itself, is reflected as a different font (19 total) overlaid to create a unique 34. Our careers are abstract. There are individual years with their own characteristics just as the fonts have their own individual characteristics, but the sum of the parts create a beautiful and unique journey and image. Congrats and thank you Big Papi!
